We Escaped! – TRAP Korea – Daegu, South Korea
We had big plans to go for a hike today to work off all of that lobster and octopus, but we woke up to another rainy day. So we changed our plans to go to an escape room here in Daegu to see what the hype is all about.
Escape rooms seem to be popping up everywhere, including Korea. If you’re not familiar with what an escape room is…it’s where a small group of people are locked in a room (or a chain of rooms) that is staged to a theme. You have 60 minutes to figure out how to get out of the room. Escaping typically involves working through puzzles, clues, and other mental challenges to unlock the exit. There are people watching your every move, and if you get stuck you can have them radio a hint in to you. It sounds weird, crazy and fun, all at the same time.
The theme for our escape room was Ancient Egypt. It was just the four of us. When they locked us in the starting room, it was admittedly a little claustrophobic. We got off to a slow start. There was a lot going on in that first room, and our exploration it was uncoordinated. And while Josh and Erika have been to a few escape rooms, we were newbies. Eventually we figured it out, and solved the next three rooms in no time. We got out in 25 minutes and 14 seconds, within 30 seconds of the record time for this room!
On the whole, while it was short, it felt like a long time, and it was a lot of fun. There are not one, but two escape rooms opening in the Lehigh Valley this year. They’re definitely worth a go!
